This workshop creates a convergent point for the world's leading river basin and delta organisations to interact, share and exchange experiences and know-how on a range of topics spanning from the holistic management of watersheds to adaptation strategies in response to climate change.

With increasing globalisation and urbanisation, the health of the world's rivers and their surrounding landscape is increasingly at risk of deterioration as rivers are exploited for a gamut of uses, amongst others fresh water supply, hydropower, irrigation and fisheries. The world has witnessed significant change in the last few decades in the face of changing climate, such as increased average temperatures, rising sea levels and changing rainfall patterns. Policy makers are realising the importance of managing river basins, like Mekong Delta and Danube River, in a holistic manner to ensure the sustainability of the river resources.

PUB is co-organising the inaugural River Basin and Delta Management Workshop with Singapore-Delft Water Alliance (SDWA) at this year's Water Week. Through this workshop, it is hoped to expand the scope of the Water Week beyond urban solutions, and look at topics such as integrated water resource management and climate change adaptations in the context of river basins and deltas.

Themed "Opportunities and Challenges in response to Climate Change", the workshop will be replete with case studies, amongst others Danube River, Mekong Delta, Mississippi River and Yellow River. The one-day workshop, to be held on the first day of the Water Week - 28 June 2010, will focus on two overarching tracks: (i) integrated management of river basins and deltas; and (ii) adapting to climate change in river basins and deltas. As a delegate of the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), you are warmly welcomed to participate in this Workshop.

Click here to register for both SIWW and the inaugural River Basin and Delta Management Workshop. The Workshop registration fee is set at a special rate of $100 for delegates of the SIWW. Interested participants who wish to only take part in the Workshop can click here to register for a fee of $300.
