Synopsis
Planet Earth is in the grip of an environmental crisis. Extreme floods, forest fires, droughts and bio-diversity loss have made life precarious. At the heart of it is water, and the modern world's disconnection from its ways. We have forgotten what our ancestors understood deeply: water always wins and is the driving force of nature.
Now, this ground-breaking documentary, Our Blue World, narrated by Liam Neeson, introduces some extraordinary individuals who are rediscovering the ancient wisdom of our ancestors and demonstrating how it can inform a new, modern consciousness that can help us navigate towards a better future.
Brilliant empathetic characters including Li An Phoa, who has walked 15,000km of the world's rivers, Kongjian Yu, the radical architect behind the revolutionary Sponge City concept, Mark Nelson, who spent 2 years in the experimental Biosphere 2 and Vered Engelhard, who is discovering the ancient water techniques of the Andes, will accompany viewers on an unprecedented journey around the world on which they will encounter water as they have never seen it before.
Filmed with epic production values in the USA, Canada, Cambodia, Peru, China, Ireland, the Netherlands, Burundi and New Zealand, this beautiful documentary celebrates the wonder of water, revealing how since the beginning of time water defined our meaning, our spirituality, our lives and our joys through every precious drop.
Ultimately, Our Blue World is a film of hope, showing how each one of us has the power through our lives with water to transform this planet for the good.

More about the forum
Efficient flow monitoring networks are a fundamental component of water resource and flood management, and this has become more evident with the impacts of climate change and significant flood events globally. The current water engineering solutions for establishing flow monitoring sites are based on well-established methods that can provide accurate and reliable flow records overtime. These solutions, however, are dependent on a significant number of resources over a prolonged period to develop accurate stage-discharge ratings. Xylem Water Solutions Australia in conjunction with The University of Queensland (Hutley et al.) developed a non-contact flow gauging solution that's based on surface velocity and water level measurements within a channel reach. The system makes use of stereo cameras for remote sensing of surface velocities and water level to develop adaptive stage-discharge rating curve for flow calculations. The adaptive stage-discharge rating curve is continuously assessed from surface velocity and water level measurements over consecutive flow events to provide the most accurate flow record within the flow monitoring site and hydraulic conditions. The fundamental principles of the solution, key features, and its ability to enhance current flow monitoring programs will be discussed during the workshop.
