Dr Beverley Stinson
Executive Vice President of Global Water Business, AECOM
Beverley Stinson is the executive vice president of AECOM's global Water business line, committed to upholding the highest standards of practice in engineering planning, design and management, across a wide range of markets. Widely recognized as a wastewater expert and champion for applied research and innovation, Bev has focused her career to developing cutting-edge technologies and identifying novel solutions for addressing emerging issues like energy neutrality, cost effective solutions for space-constrained sites, water reuse, and PFAS. She has led numerous large-scale municipal wastewater and biosolids master planning programs for clients throughout the world, and has conducted extensive research into biological nutrient removal processes, co-digestion, and nutrient and energy recovery processes.
Bev has contributed to some of the most progressive wastewater roadmapping and planning programs in the world, including those for the cities of Washington, DC, San Francisco, Miami Dade, Sacramento, New York, Baltimore, Vancouver, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Melbourne, all of which have multiple plants and impending or current nutrient and energy reduction requirements. Bev has extensive experience in developing strategic roadmaps and cost-effective alternatives for large treatment plants, and in identifying and advancing promising treatment technologies that offer better performance at reduced cost and operational complexity. Her recent experience includes the piloting and concept design for the installation of the first sidestream deammonifiation plant to treat thermally hydrolyzed filtrate, and the first large-scale mainstream deammonification demonstration plant in the world in Singapore. She has served as a principal investigator and technical contributor for the Water Research Foundation on numerous projects including the recent mainstream deammonification compendium.
Bev's projects have received more than 20 national awards and have been documented in more than 60 technical publications and presentations. She recently spoke on the future of Water Recycling at the 2021 California Water Reuse Conference, and presented on the subject of Innovative Process for Granulation of Continuous Flow Activated Sludge at Singapore International Water Week 2021. Other recent recognition includes an Honor award for applied research on mainstream deammonification from the International Water Association Global Project Innovation Competition. This award celebrates the leadership role that AECOM and its clients are playing in advancing mainstream deammonification which is an emerging sustainable and energy efficient nitrogen removal technology.
