Harnessing Nature Based Solutions to Improve Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience
4:00pm - 4:45pm
Hall A, Level 1
The effects of climate change that impact coastal erosion are storm surges, monsoon patterns, wind-wave climate, and relative sea-level rise, which will lead to increased erosion rates, coastal squeeze, and more frequent and extreme storm events. This panel discussion will highlight the practical way that the public and private sectors work together to address the devastating effects of climate change. What are the effective and low-cost solutions that help solve the climate crisis and water and protect biodiversity? Deep dive into the opportunity and challenges of leveraging nature-based solutions and technologies in coastal protection and flood management.

Embracing a Circular Water Economy
10:30am - 11:15am
Hall D, Level B2
Over 75% of Asia is water insecure, and over 90% of the region's population faces a water crisis. The panel discussion's speakers will elaborate on how the public and private sectors work together to drive sustainable water management practices throughout the value chain. What are the policies and programs that are promoting and governing water conservation in the private sector? How are business operations adopting an effective water management to reduce, reuse, and recycle of water? And how can private sector companies play a role in realizing water resilience and sustainability in the region?

Strengthening Urban Resilience to Measure and Mitigate Climate Risks
11:00am - 11:45am
Hall A, Level 1
According to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, climate change is increasing vector-borne and water-borne diseases, undernutrition, mental disorders, and allergy-related illnesses in Asia by increasing hazards such as heatwaves, flooding and drought, and air pollutants. This panel discussion will discuss the gaps and opportunities of the city’s system, businesses and individuals to adapt under climate change. What works, what lessons to learn, and how to replicate and scale successes to resilient, adaptive, and climate-neutral cities and regions

The Use of Anaerobic and Algae Treatment to Achieve Net Negative Carbon Emissions in Regional Areas and Developing Nations
11:15am - 11:45am
Hall D, Level B2
[Case Study] Activated sludge processes require continuous electricity delivery, while low intensity processes such as anaerobic lagoons are less effective in pathogen and nutrient removal. Here, we present application of a novel high-rate anaerobic and high-rate algae system at demonstration scale, which utilises low power drives, while producing clean biogas and algae product. Nitrous and methane emissions are eliminated or mitigated by the nature of the process. The system is effective in removing pathogens and solids, and effectively removes ammonia, but leaves residual nitrate and phosphate. It is therefore an effective replacement for lagoon based treatment, particularly substantially reducing the risk of water borne disease, but does not replace activated sludge for larger scale urban treatment.

Mobilising Finance for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
11:45am - 12:30pm
Hall D, Level B2
The Asia-Pacific region is currently not on track to achieve any SDG 6 targets by 2030, as progress falls short of where the area should be by 2022. In this panel discussion, our speakers will share practical ways for the region to take action to improve the progress towards SDG 6. How can public and private sectors work together to promote water and wastewater infrastructure investment? How can the private sector play a role in addressing the financing gap in water projects?
